Our vineyards are situated at the top of the South Island in the sun-soaked heart of Awatere Valley, Marlborough and Upper Moutere, Nelson. We have a rare combination of mineral rich soils and a coastal climate resulting in fertile lands. True to our winemaking history, we are committed to growing exceptional grapes and exceptional wines.
A recent addition to our range of wines is Tutū, a hand crafted cider from single varietal Fuji apples grown in our Motueka orchards.
Tutū cider is the younger, sprightlier sibling of the Kono beverages family. Made from 100% Nelson Fuji apples sun ripened on our ancestral lands in Nelson. Our apples are pressed, brewed and bottled all in Nelson, using an old family recipe. This 100% natural apple juice cider offers a fresh crisp fruit bouquet.
Our globally acclaimed wine is a true expression of the stunning Marlborough and Nelson region, encapsulating a place and time. We produce wines with robust, fruit flavours and incredible aromatics which have won praise from consumers and critics throughout the world.
Internationally acclaimed, our range of premium quality Tohu wines each reflects the strengths of the Awatere Valley in Marlborough. Our winemaking philosophy is to create styles of wine that best reflect our sub-region, and captures the very essence of our Awatere Valley vineyard. Since establishment in 1998, as New Zealand’s first Māori owned wine company, we have developed a reputation for producing premium wine in a range of varieties with multiple accolades for our Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Méthode Traditionnelle.
Hop Federation is a craft brewery found in Riwaka, the very heart of hop country. Our dedication to producing seriously delicious ales starts with the way our hops are farmed and it all happens right down the road. It’s quite literally our own team with their hands in the soil, meaning there’s a straight line from hop to glass. As part of Kono, we share a promise of love for the land and respect for the sea. We are guided by values of kaitiakitanga, or sustainability, and our passion for hop farming is matched only by our dedication for the brewer’s art. Welcome to the world of Hop Federation craft beers.
Our winery, located in Marlborough’s Awatere Valley, is utilised to make both Tohu and Aronui wines with a consent to process 6000 tonnes of wine. Owning our own modern, fit-for-purpose facility enables our winemaker and his team complete control – optimising the quality of all of our wines.
Our philosophy is that wine should encapsulate a place and a time. As a product it doesn’t play by the same rules as mass-produced consumer goods, it varies from year to year, place to place.
All of our company vineyards and winery sites are accredited by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ). SWNZ is managed by New Zealand Winegrowers, the national wine industry body. The programme was developed to provide a best-practice model for environmental sustainability in the industry. Displaying the SWNZ logo guarantees that environmentally sustainable practices have been used from the vineyard to the bottle.
In the last 3 years alone our wines have received a combined 10 trophies, 36 five star reviews and 52 gold medals. These include some of the most prestigious wine competitions and publications in the world.
A full list of our top accolades are available on our Tohu and Aronui websites.
